- The word "tundra" comes from tunturia meaning treeless land in Finnish
- Winter lasts around 8 months or 2/3 of the year! - In the middle of the summer the sun will stay up for 24 hours straight (in some locations), this is referred to as a midnight sun - As permafrost is melting, the tundra is shrinking significantly. The melting is caused by global warming.
